(from vines in the northeastern section of the clos ): Medium red. Aromas of black cherry, licorice and flowers. Chewy and sweet on entry, then more much clenched on the back half, showing a somewhat unrefined texture to the medicinal black cherry and bitter chocolate flavors. Plenty of depth of fruit here but this is tough going today.

The 2013 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru, which comes from vines located next to Mortet, has a lively, effervescent bouquet with bright red cherries and crushed strawberry aromas infused with orange peel. The palate is medium-bodied with svelte tannins, nicely judged acidity; not a Clos de Vougeot with enormous weight, but one that feels lithe and velvety in the mouth. It is a textural wine. Very fine.
