Score 92-95/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Jan 2013

(from a 38-year-old massale selection that yielded tiny millerande grapes; Cyprien Arlaud noted that the percentage of new oak has been coming down steadily, and was just 30% for this wine and the Clos Saint-Denis in 2011): Good bright, deep red. Flamboyantly complex, precise aromas of black raspberry, exotic spices, wild herbs and pepper. Dense, juicy and very intense, with soil-driven flavors of raspberry, pepper, spices and herbs. The rising finish features suave tannins, a blast of flowers and outstanding retention of fresh raspberry fruit. Should age beautifully.
