Good medium red. Deeply pitched aromas of cherry and plum, along with mocha, toffee and smoke notes from the oak (all French in this instance, vs. two-thirds American in the case of the zinfandel). Again, silky on entry and fairly intensely flavored, but a wine of only moderate complexity. Here the tannins hit the palate earlier but also contribute texture to the wine. Finishing note of woodsmoke.
