Similarly hued, the 2019 Chardonnay Little Hill is more chalky and mineral-laced, with impressive citrus fruits as well as white flowers and subtle toasty nuances. More medium-bodied, it's another flawlessly balanced Chardonnay from this estate that will shine for 4-5 years. It should be even better with a year of bottle age. I like the richness of the River Block slightly more, but both of these are brilliant Chardonnays.

The 2019 Chardonnay Little Hill is savory on the nose, with touches of charcuterie, bright citrus fruit, candle smoke, graphite and almonds. The palate is medium-bodied with delicate, mineral-laced flavors supported by a satiny texture and a flush of fresh acidity uplifting the very long finish. This deserves another couple of years in bottle.

The 2019 Chardonnay Little Hill emerges from the oldest vines on the ranch, planted in 1972. A powerful, intense wine, the Little Hill is marked by a distinct feeling of firmness. Shallow gravelly-loam soils result in low yields and wines with notable concentration. Readers should plan on cellaring the 2019 for at least a few years. The 2019 is certainly impressive in the early going.
