A deep transparent red, the 2021 Pinot Noir Mysterious Arcus Vineyard is brooding with aromas of sandalwood and ripe fruit, as well as lavender and cherry liqueur. Medium-bodied, it carries great intensity and purity, with fine tannins and snappy lift on the finish, and its saline and mineral tinge lasts for ages on the back palate. Long on the palate, with fantastic nerve and energy, it will be an age-worthy wine to enjoy over the next 10-12 years.

From 2009. Fruit from the Arcus Vineyard owned by Archery Summit. They originally had to sign an NDA not to divulge the source of the grapes, hence Mysterious. It was since rescinded but they had already established Mysterious as a brand name so have retained it. Edgy and concentrated and ambitious. Côte de Nuits style! Lots of structure and some developing, edgy fruit. Lots of nuance. (JR)
