Score 88/100 · Drink 2018-2027, Neal Martin, Nov 2018

The 2015 Pommard Les Chaponnières 1er Cru has a modest, conservative bouquet of pleasant, earthy red berry fruit laced with graphite. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin and well-judged acidity; a little “gourmand” toward the finish, with a savory aftertaste. Drink sooner rather than later. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

The 2015 Pommard 1er Cru Les Chaponnières is developing nicely, opening in the glass with a sweet bouquet of red and black fruit, dark chocolate and a smoky framing of new oak. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, with sappy acids, good depth at the core and fine-grained tannins. A very promising Pommard from this emerging talent.

Next to Rugiens Bas. Quite light and even with a hint of something green. Not charming but correct. (JR)

The 2015 Pommard 1er Cru Les Chaponnières showed more composure and terroir expression on the nose compared to the Pommard les Perrières: crisp black fruit with a hint of fresh date. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, crisp and lightly spiced with fine delineation towards the finish. Give this a year or two after bottling and then enjoy over the next ten years.
