Score 92/100 · Drink 2010-2020, Robert Parker, Dec 2007

The full-bodied, rich, concentrated 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Bugay Vineyard is a more rustic example with noticeable tannins as well as earthy undertones buttressing the black cherry and black currant fruit tinged with notions of roasted herb and loamy soil notes. Despite its opulence and headiness, it requires several years of bottle age. It should be at its finest between 2010-2020. This joint project of Duncan Arnot Meyers and Nathan Lee Roberts is a tiny boutique operation focusing on fewer than 1,000 cases of wine. Trivia buffs will be interested to learn that the beautiful label of California Fuchsia was painted by Margaret Biever-Mondavi, Nathan Lee Roberts’ grandmother. Tel. Inky violet. Intensely perfumed nose offers powerful, flamboyantly spiced boysenberry and blackcurrant aromas that are positively room-filling. Dense and sweet, with deeply concentrated dark berry and cherry flavors verging on liqueur-like. But this has impressive energy and grip, giving it focus and helping to extend the flavors across the palate. Formidable stuff, with an uncanny balance of concentration and verve. And the bouquet is to die for. This site is on a volcanic ridge in the Mayacamas Range.
