Score 89/100 · Drink 2019-2026, Anthony Mueller, Wine Advocate, Dec 2019

The 2017 Syrah Stolen Horse gives up aromas of black plum, mulberry and blackberry on the nose along with classic tones of black pepper swimming with soft oak spices and a defined petrichor note. The wine is medium to full-bodied, juicy and ripe on the palate, with ripe tannins that grip the mid-palate. The core of dark fruit remains at the center of the expression, with notes of rain-kissed river rock, and the wine lingers with a tannic edge on the finish. I can see this showing better in about three years. 549 cases produced.

Not yet bottled, the 2017 Syrah Stolen Horse has loads to love and delivers ample meaty Syrah fruit and gamey notions in a rich, medium to full-bodied, rounded, voluptuous style that stays balanced and classy. With great aromatics and an already approachable style, it's going to drink nicely right out of the gate. The blend is 96% Syrah and 4% Viognier, co-fermented with 10% stems, that will see 16 months in 25% new French oak, with 20% of the blend in concrete.
