From a site near Dalla Valle, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Weitz Vineyard is a beauty. Offering up loads of blue fruits, plums, violets, and ground herbs on the nose, it’s nicely structured and full-bodied on the palate, while leaning toward the more elegant, focused end of the spectrum. I love its balance as well as its purity of fruit, and it’s a beautiful 2017 to enjoy over the coming 15+ years.

The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Weitz Vineyard is bold and punchy, but also tightly wound for the year, which is surprising. Inky blue and purplish fruit, licorice, lavender, spice, menthol and gravel all develop in the glass, but the 2017 remains quite reticent, especially within the context of the year. Readers need to give the 2017 a few years in bottle to allow the tannins to soften.

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Weitz Vineyard features stewed plums, blueberry preserves, baked blackcurrants and raspberry preserves with touches of cedar chest, pencil lead, forest floor and smoked meats. The palate is medium to full-bodied with a firm chewy texture and taut, muscular fruit, finishing savory.
