Score 91/100 · Drink 2015-2027, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Apr 2015

(13.9% alcohol): Saturated, deep ruby-red. Slightly roasted aromas of black raspberry, licorice, menthol and nuts are lifted by a spearmint nuance. Fat, sweet and a bit high-toned, showing a liqueur-like ripeness and an impression of elevated alcohol to its boysenberry, espresso and spice flavors. Finishes with big, slightly granular tannins and excellent length. Doesn't offer the complexity or perfume of the cooler vintages but this wine should continue to evolve for at least another decade.

Boasting fantastic, complex and nuanced aromatics, the 1997 Sean Thackrey Orion has garrigue, raw meat, leather and beautiful fruit notes of black cherry and cassis literally jumping from the glass. These lead into a medium to full bodied palate that is concentrated, beautifully balanced, structured and long. Drinking fantastically well and an amazing wine!

Dark, dense and concentrated with tar, leather and black raspberry on the nose with lovely vanilla, oak and spice notes in the background. Big and rustic with gobs of dusty tannins on the finish. Very nice!
