Score 87-88/100 · Drink 1999-2004, Pierre Rovani, Aug 1998

This wine reveals a ruby/purple color and a lovely nose of blueberries and black cherries. It is an expressive, rich, medium-to-full-bodied, and refined wine that has the structure of a Nuits and the opulent, spicy red and black fruit flavors of a Vosne. Anticipated maturity: 1999-2004. Interestingly, this wine has the same pH as the Vosne-Romanee yet appears deeper, richer, and is, in my view, a substantially safer bet for cellaring. The village appellation offerings from Vosne and Nuits have the lowest pHs (3.35) of Meo's wines (the rest are between 3.45 and 3.5). Sweeter, fruitier nose, with a slight nutty quality. Softer and sweeter than the Vosne-Romanee, and perhaps a bit denser as well. But there very firm acidity here.
