The 2019 Loner Chardonnay The Golden Hour opens with touches of struck flint, roasted almonds and beeswax with a core of peachy fruit. The light-bodied palate is textural and refreshing with expansive, nutty flavors and a long, gently leesy finish.

The 2019 Loner Chardonnay The Golden Hour (100% Chardonnay from the John Sebastiano Vineyard) sports a vivid light gold hue to go with a great nose of ripe, honeyed apple, toasted bread, salty minerality, and a touch of almond paste. Beautiful on the palate as well, it has lots of Sta. Rita Hills minerality, a layered, medium to full-bodied texture, and a great finish. It's beautifully done and will have a decade or more of longevity. While I always love the wines from Matthias Pippig, some of these latest releases played in what I call the “more interesting than good” category. While all good, there are hits and misses here.

The 2019 Chardonnay The Golden Hour, from John Sebastiano Vineyard, is bright, airy and gracious. Citrus peel, white flowers, chalk, mint and white pepper give the 2019 striking lift to match its understated, mid-weight personality. This is the most nervy, tense white I have ever tasted from Matthias Pippig, and it is a winner.
