There are two barrels of the 2021 Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru to go round this year. There is a bit of reduction on the nose, though it seems to have a similar aromatic profile to the spellbinding Chapelle-Chambertin with crystalline red fruit. The palate is fabulous: slightly grainy tannins that frame petite confit-like red fruit, a healthy dose of white pepper with a supremely well balanced finish that has superb backbone. One for keeping.

The 2021 Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru is brilliant. This cuvée always seems to be the most defined by site and the least defined by vintage in the range (as I will explore in a report on an extensive vertical tasting to be published later this year), and 2021 is no exception. Wafting from the glass with aromas of raspberries, blood orange zest, potpourri and exotic spices, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny and seamless, with a beautifully harmonious, integrated profile and a long, saline finish.
