Score 91/100 · Drink 2015-2022, Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Advocate, Sep 2015

One of the more upfront, sexy, soft and hedonistic wines in the retrospective, the 2007 Hermitage - which does not include the grapes that went into the Ex Voto - is loaded with sweet black raspberry and cassis fruits, licorice, incense and spice. Mouthfilling, ripe, forward and beautifully textured, even with some elegance, it has a drink me now feel and should be at its best over the coming 5-7 years.

Dark ruby. Ripe plum, cherry pit and a suggestion of licorice on the smoky nose. Lush, smoky cherry and cassis flavors are brightened by juicy acidity and put on weight with air. Finishes very long and smoky, with smooth tannins and notes of bitter chocolate and anise. Shows surprising heft and generosity for the vintage, and it's drinkable now.

Dark ruby. Smoky red and dark berry aromas are complemented by suggestions of smoky minerals, black olive and cracked pepper. Tangy and slow to open, displaying spice-accented blackberry and bitter cherry flavors that are braced by firm tannins. Taut, focused and very fresh, finishing with excellent cut and strong, spicy persistence. No way that I'd have guessed this wine was approaching its sixth birthday.
