(made entirely with whole clusters): Vivid red. Mineral-accented aromas of cherry, rhubarb and blood orange, with a hint of rose oil building with air. Bright and energetic, offering sharply focused bitter cherry and floral pastille flavors and a hint of star anise. Shows excellent lift and clarity on the finish, with the red fruit and spice notes echoing. This is the first vintage for this bottling.
Another striking wine, the 2012 Pinot Noir Coastlands Vineyard is simply stunning. Here the floral and savory notes from the whole clusters are much more evident than in the two preceding Pinots. A fabric of bright cranberry, pomegranate, cinnamon and floral notes captivates the senses in a wine that conveys the essence of this rugged coastal site.
The 2012 Pinot Noir Coastlands Vineyard, from Ross Cobb's vineyard on the Sonoma Coast, is a surprisingly huge wine for this site, largely because of the richness of the year. Rich, textured and totally beautiful, the Coastlands is another wine that will be fascinating to follow. Autumn leaves, sweet, red cherries and a hint of hard candy is layered into the rich, voluptuous finish.
