The 2019 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru is quite intense on the nose with dried honey, oyster shell and touches of yellow plum. It shows fine delineation and focus, improving in the glass. The palate is well balanced with impressive depth and a crisp and taut line of acidity. Overall, this is harmonious, with a very subtle reduction on the finish that seems to impart energy and tension. There's a dab of stem ginger on the aftertaste, completing an impressive Bâtard-Montrachet. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

Less funky than many young wines from this Grand Cru, with the flinty character we associate with Bâtard. Very serious structure on the full-bodied palate. Builds to an imposing and finely nuanced finish that may be too radical for some, but excites us. Drink or hold.
