Moving to the Pinot Noir, the 2017 Pinot Noir UV Vineyard comes all from the Calera clone and was fermented with 6% stems before aging in French oak. Readers should jump all over this beauty, a stunning Pinot Noir in every sense. Loads of strawberry fruits, as well as notes of orange blossom, violets, and spice, give way to a medium to full-bodied, ultra-pure, flawlessly balanced Pinot Noir. It’s already hard to resist, yet I’ve no doubt it will be just as good at age 10. The personal label of the up-and-coming Sam Kaplan, these Maxem releases should be snatched up by readers.

Produced from 10% Calera clone, the 2017 Pinot Noir UV Vineyard has a medium to deep ruby-purple color and comes bounding out of the glass with vivacious black raspberries, Morello cherries and warm cranberries scents with nuances of red roses, cinnamon stick and fertile loam. Medium-bodied, the palate is filled with juicy red berries and floral sparks, framed by soft, silky tannins and finishing with a lingering lift of freshness.
