Deep ruby in colour. This is really reduced on opening … I think some would find it off-putting. As it opens it shows earthiness and a black-plum character. Lots of impact on the palate. Quite spicy with the plum character following through into iodine and wet leaves. Still fresh and long on the acid. (SCJ)

Surprisingly, the 100% Cabernet Sauvignon (14 year old vines) 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Klipsun Vineyard’s nose is almost Burgundian in style, revealing loads of fresh, ripe, intense black cherry aromas. This exceptionally long wine boasts an expressive personality that regales the taster with cherries (both red and black), cassis, blackberries, and complex notes of asphalt. Its copious tannin is sweet, supple, and completely enveloped in fruit. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2018. This winery, named after Chris and Annie Camarda’s nephew, Andrew, as well as son, Will, used to produce a bevy of Merlots and Cabernets from contracted vineyards. Recently, however, it has evolved towards the production of Bordeaux-style blends that reflect Chris’s perception of each vineyard’s terroir. Klipsun Vineyard, located in the Red Mountain AVA (American Viticultural Area), remains the exception to Camarda’s newly found “meritage” philosophy. Tel. (206) 463-9227 www.andrewwill.com
