Score 88-91/100 · Drink 2000-2005, Pierre Rovani, Feb 1999

The Puligny-Montrachet Les Enseigneres is a sweet white fruit and buttered toast-scented wine that will certainly be excellent. If its medium-to-full-bodied, powerful, focused, and super-ripe core of pears and apples is able to integrate its acidity better it will merit an outstanding rating. Drink it between 2000 and 2005. A Peter Vezan Selection (Paris Fax # 011-33-1-42654293), importers include: North Berkeley Imports, Berkeley, CA; tel (510) 848-8910, and a Patrick Lesec Selection (Paris Fax # 011-33-1-42843822), various American importers, including Bacchus Importers (800) 525-9699.

Deep spice and oak char on the nose. Intense, bright flavor of pink grapefruit. Spicy but not particularly fat. From another barrel: Fresher aroma of spiced apple. Rich and round, but a bit less complex than the first sample. Impossible to assess with confidence today.
