The deep ruby-colored 2016 Pinot Noir Sanford & Benedict Vineyard comes from one of the reference point vineyards in the Sta. Rita Hills and spent 15 months in 20% new French oak. Ripe black cherries, mulberries, underbrush, and forest floor notes flow to a juicy, nicely concentrated, balanced effort that has nicely integrated acidity as well as sweet tannins. It picks up more floral notes with time in the glass and is ideal for drinking over the coming 7-8 years.

The 2016 Pinot Noir Sanford & Benedict Vineyard is sublime. Bright red-toned fruit, chalk, blood orange and white pepper grace the 2016 Pinot Noir Sanford & Benedict Vineyard. Lifted, precise and nuanced, the 2016 has so much to offer. This is an especially translucent, weightless expression of S&B. I especially admire the energy and focus here.
The 2016 Pinot Noir Sanford & Benedict Vineyard is the most promising candidate for cellaring of all these reds from Lutum, offering up attractive aromas of cherry, raspberry, currant leaf and aromatic bark, followed by a medium to full-bodied, layered palate with juicy acids, a nice sense of completeness, and a firm, chewy finish which will soften with a little bottle age. At fully 963 cases, this is also Lutum's largest cuvée by some margin.
