Score 89-91/100 · Drink 2018-2028, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Dec 2016

The 2015 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru La Garenne comes from two parcels: very old vines and others that were planted in 2000, one-third to two-thirds of the blend respectively. It is more austere and mineral-driven on the nose compared to the Chalumaux, hints of yellow plum developing in the glass. The palate is fresh and vibrant on the entry with a fine line of acidity, not quite as precise on the saline finish as the Chalumaux, yet displaying fine persistence in the mouth. It might be eclipsed by the Chalumaux and Hameau de Blagny in the long-term, but I suspect it will gain complexity throughout its ageing in bottle.
