The 2017 Châteauneuf Du Pape La Begude Des Papes is solid, offering a fruit-forward, rich, medium to full-bodied style as well as outstanding notes of blackberries, ground pepper, and spring flowers. A blend of 70% Grenache, 15% Syrah, and the rest Mourvèdre and Cinsault, drink this expansive, textured, pleasure-bent beauty over the coming 8-10 years.
A great success this year, the 2017 Chateauneuf du Pape features a sexy mélange of black cherries and red raspberries on the nose. A blend of 70% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 12% Mourvèdre and 3% Cinsault from the lieu-dit la Brusquières, aged in a mix of old barrels and concrete tank, it's full-bodied, creamy and lush without being warm or overripe. Hints of dark fruit and licorice accent notes of orange zest and dried spices on the long finish.
60% Grenache Blanc, 30% Clairette, 10% Bourboulenc. Cask sample. Tasted blind. Sickly aroma. Simple citric fruit on the palate. Bitter notes to finish. (RH)
