The 2017 Halcyon Days is a blend of Petit Verdot with smaller portions of Petite Sirah and Cabernet Sauvignon that matured for nearly three years in seasoned oak. It has a medium ruby color and alluring scents of Morello cherries, blueberries, rose petals, menthol and garrigue plus streaks of graphite. The full-bodied palate is firm and grainy with soft bursts of acidity, a deep core of perfumed fruit and a very long, floral finish. Lovely! 125 cases were made.

Deep black fruits, tobacco, cassis, and graphite notes all emerge from the 2017 Halcyon Days, a powerful, concentrated blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Petit Verdot, and 25% Petit Sirah. It has a pure, balanced mouthfeel, full-bodied richness, ripe tannins, and good acidity. It's going to keep for 15+ years. While I always love the wines from Matthias Pippig, some of these latest releases played in what I call the “more interesting than good” category. While all good, there are hits and misses here.

The 2017 Halcyon Days is packed with inky blue/purplish fruit, dried herbs, lavender, licorice, black pepper, incense and leather. Even with all of its intensity, the 2017 is fresh, vibrant and full of energy. That duality is quite appealing. This deep, resonant Petit Verdot-based blend is showing so well today.
