Mostly from the Les Collines Vineyard in Walla Walla, the 2013 Syrah The Deuce is a fabulous, downright sexy 2013 that’s loaded with gamy, lavender, dried violets, and peppery aromas and flavors. Giving up lots of dark fruits, full-bodied richness, sweet tannin and a graceful, never heavy texture, it shows the vintage's more charming, approachable style, yet I’m sure this beauty will cruise for a decade in the cellar.

(13.5% alcohol; mostly from Les Colline vineyard; vinified with 60% whole clusters and aged for 18 months in 10% new puncheons): Dark red. Sexy aromas of strawberry, bacon fat, minerals, brown spices and cocoa powder call to mind a northern Rhone Syrah. Plush on entry, then spicy and firm in the mid-palate, showing classically dry flavors of red and darker berries complicated by a smoky, rocky aspect. Finishes with firm-edged, building tannins and lingering spices and flowers. Lovely potential here.
