(from the late Reg Oliver's vineyard in St. Helena; Revilo is Oliver spelled backward; includes a bit of petit verdot): Good dark red. Dusty cherry and licorice on the nose, with some green notes of mint and herbs that mostly dissipated with air. Then surprisingly sweet and pliant in the mouth, with menthol and mineral flavors currently overshadowing primary fruit. Finishes with serious palate-saturating tannins. There's a delicacy here, but the wine is currently in an awkward stage.

The 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Revilo Vineyard exhibits a floral/spring flower garden-like character in addition to sweet blueberry and black currant fruit, ripe tannin, medium to full body and a precocious, upfront appeal that makes it irresistible already. There is enough stuffing for 10-15 years of cellaring. These are impressive efforts from proprietor Mark Carter. Tel. and Fax: (707) 445-0311
