Drouhin's 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin Village is showing very well from bottle, offering up an incipiently reserved nose of raspberry, cherry, dark chocolate, currant leaf and undergrowth. On the palate, the wine is supple, fine-grained and beautifully balanced, with succulent acids, a deep core and lovely persistence, defined by the understated reserve that is this maison's calling card. While this Gevrey's structural refinement will mean that it can give pleasure young, in the 2015 vintage this is decidedly a bottle which will reward some time in the cellar and it should drink well for over two decades. Note that this incorporates full 30% premier cru fruit.

Medium red. High-pitched scents of cranberry, dark cherry and red rose. Juicy, spicy and quite firm, with its slight leanness and notes of bitter chocolate, menthol and herbs suggesting a wide range of ripeness. Is there enough stuffing for the firm, slightly dusty tannins? Finishes with an impression of medicinal reserve.

The 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin Village is a blend of seven parcels, although the En Champs broke ranks and is now being vinified separately from this vintage forward. It has a pure and generous bouquet, a mixture of blue and black fruit that suggests something more Fixin in style. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin, nimble on its toes, tapering a little towards the finish but maintaining freshness throughout. This is a well-crafted village cru.
