(50% new oak and no stems): Bright ruby-red. Ripe raspberry, incense and rose oil on the fragrant, oak-spiced nose. Fleshy and broad on entry, then tighter in the middle, offering lively red and dark berry flavors and a touch of vanilla. Smooth and seamless on the finish, with echoes the raspberry and spice notes. Very young still, but highly promising; definitely give it some air or bottle age.

The 2012 Pinot Noir Ridgetop Vineyard, a site in the northern Sonoma Coast near the town of Annapolis, reveals notes of baked apples, sweet cherries and currants, and spicy oak. Rich, medium to full-bodied, textured and pure, this complex, French-styled Pinot Noir can be drunk over the next 7-8 years. I would love to taste this blind against a Jadot Beaune Clos des Ursules. All of Sojourn Cellars’ Chardonnays see about 30% new oak, and tend to have finished alcohols in the 14% to 14.3% range. Sojourn produces a half dozen Pinot Noirs, ranging between 14.2% and 14.6% natural alcohol. Most of them are made from Dijon clones. Tel. (707) 938-7212
