Score 98/100 · Drink 2029-2050, Jeb Dunnuck, Jan 2025

The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon JCB #1 is flat-out brilliant, with a pure, layered, ultra-classic style in its darker currants, cassis, sandalwood, and smoky, spicy, tobacco-scented aromatics. With full-bodied richness, it has a layered, balanced mouthfeel, beautifully polished tannins, a concentrated mid-palate, and a great finish. It needs 4-5 years of bottle age and will cruise for two decades in a cold cellar. It's a brilliant wine that I wish every reader could taste.

Sourced largely from St. Helena, with a bit of Stags Leap District fruit in the blend, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon No. 1 delivers classic cassis—almost Ribena-like—fruit. Full-bodied, it comes across as almost sweet and slightly jammy, with supple, silky tannins and hints of dark chocolate on the finish.
