The single vineyard offering, the 2004 Chardonnay Lorenzo offers up a sumptuous bouquet of orange peel, lemon blossom, honeyed citrus, white currants, brioche, and crushed rocks. Complex and full-bodied with terrific definition as well as length, this beauty should be enjoyed over the next 5-7 years. Tel. (707) 833-0212; Fax (707) 833-1164

(aged in 65% new oak, vs. 35% for the Damaris Reserve) Pale yellow color. Tight nose hints at peach and butterscotch. Sweet on entry, then quite firm and classically dry in the middle, with peach and oak spice flavors complicated by an exotic pineapple character. Today this very backward wine finishes with a slightly dry edge. Drink the Damaris while giving this a year or so in the cellar. Winemaker Eric Stern described 2004 as a very early, extreme harvest. "We had high sugars and high acids due to vine shutdown, not to mention lowish crop levels," he explained. "We started the harvest in the third week of August, and it was a mercy picking."
