Tasting notes
Score 89+/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Sep 2007

Subdued aromas of musky stone fruits and clove. Fat, sweet and fruity, but a bit closed today and not yet showing much nuance. (This is usually more Alsace-like and expressive at this stage, notes Javillier.) This densely packed wine finishes with a lemony lightness and a slightly tough, almost tannic impression. Javillier used just 15% new oak here as he believes that this fruit, mostly from old vines, marries badly with new wood.

Lemon cream and flowers on the nose; a bit lower-pitched than the Puligny but still fresh. Bright and perfumed in the mouth, with lovely lift to the flavors of lemon, spices and stone. In its chewy texture this is a tad more rustic than the Levrons, but there's no heaviness. Finishes with good length.
