Score 90/100 · Drink 2002-2020, Robert Parker, Dec 1998

The 1996 Miravalle La Perle Chevalier Proprietary Red Wine (4,231 cases, made from a blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, and 5% Cabernet Franc) is as good as the 1995. It is a medium to full-bodied, sweet, rich, chocolatey, black currant-scented and flavored wine with a slight Medoc-like austerity, but sweet fruit, excellent balance, in addition to purity and depth. Although less massive than the 1995, it is as concentrated and long. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2020. This winery's red wines, which are given extended macerations of between 14-45 days, tend to be primarily Cabernet Sauvignon-based wines, aged in 100% new oak. Tel. (707) 967-4188
