Bright, saturated ruby-red. Superb caliche energy to the aromas of boysenberry, blueberry, blackberry, violet and crushed rock. Extremely pure Cabernet with almost painful black fruit intensity and a filigree texture. This very backward but extremely promising Cabernet finishes with huge tannins, a piquant suggestion of saline minerality and outstanding rising length. The crop level was probably just under two tons per acre from this 2010 planting, according to Chris Figgins. (from vines on rocky soil at up to 1,450 feet, some on terraces but most planted at high density in a windy spot; of the four vineyard-designated wines in 2016, this one was made from the smallest crop level)

The 2016 Serra Pedace Vineyard (100% Cabernet Sauvignon from a site in the Walla Walla Valley) is the first single vineyard wine from the estate. It has more spiced red and black currants, plenty of obvious minerality and charcoal, a full-bodied, concentrated, structured style, and a big finish. It lacks a touch of the elegance of its sibling, but it’s one seriously good mouthful of a Washington State Cabernet Sauvignon.
