Score 97/100 · Drink 2023-2044, Jeb Dunnuck, Dec 2021

From a great vintage for Napa Valley, the 2016 M Proprietary Red Wine is a sensational wine loaded with notions of crème de cassis, blackcurrants, violets, iron, Asian spice, and some obvious minerality. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it has fine tannins, a solid sense of elegance, good mid-palate depth and concentration, and outstanding length. Most 2016s have shut down slightly, yet they're still offering ample pleasure. If you have a few bottles, do your best to hold off for 2-3 years and this should evolve for 15-20.

A blend of Bordeaux varieties, the 2016 M by Marciano displays a medium to deep garnet-purple color. It is a little youthfully subdued to begin, opening with delicate notions of fresh mulberries, black cherries and warm blackcurrants with hints of raspberry leaves, forest floor, violets and black tea plus touches of cedar chest and charcoal. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has fantastic energy, with layers of black fruits and earthy sparks supported by lovely freshness and a solid grainy texture, finishing long with an herbal lift.
