(from Sundance Vineyard, which features sandy soils over black volcanic sand): Bright, dark ruby-red. Perfumed if laid-back aromas of raspberry, licorice, spices and flowers. Juicy, sharply focused and tightly wound; already displaying excellent precision but needs time to express itself and reveal its soil character. Delicate, stylish, aromatic Syrah.

The 2012 Syrah The Deal Sundance Vineyard is another great vintage here. Giving up lots of minerality in its classic Syrah nose of smoked meats, licorice, toasted spice and both kirsch and darker berry fruit, it's voluptuous, full-bodied, concentrated and already drinking beautifully. Given its balance, it will have a decade or more of longevity.
