Score 91/100 · Drink 2014-2019, Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Advocate, Aug 2013

A blend of Syrah, Tempranillo and Petit Verdot, the 2009 Bull by the Horns is the most structured of the bunch. Showing a deep purple color, it delivers loads of dried spice-laced red and black fruits, licorice, leafy herbs, leather and meaty qualities to go with a medium to full-bodied, structured, yet well-textured palate. Balanced, rich and with solid freshness, it, too, needs another year or so in bottle and will shine over the coming 5-6 years. Drink 2014-2019. These value-priced efforts are made by McPrice Myers and offer ridiculously good drinking for not much money. The wines are, generally speaking, upfront and fruit-loaded, yet always offer solid complexity, good richness and overall very well-made profiles. Tel. (805) 237-1245; www.barrel27-mcpricemyers.com
