The 2014 Chianti Rùfina offers only modest depth and complexity. I would prefer to drink it over the next year or so, before the green, vegetal notes that are present completely dominate over the fruit. Hints of sweet red cherry, tobacco and herbs add nuance, but the challenges of the year are impossible to escape.

Made with organic fruit, the 2014 Chianti Rufina is a spicy and savory wine that offers much more definition and background shading than you would otherwise expect of this difficult vintage. The Riserva is 100% Sangiovese but this wine sees 10% Canaiolo and Colorino added to the blend for a lighter and less formal personality. The mouthfeel is crisp, smooth and bright. Fragrant layers of wild berry and blue flower make this a great value option.
