The 2007 Pinot Noir West Block is more structured than the 10 Acre bottling but is otherwise similar in its aromatic and flavor profile. It will benefit from 1-2 years of additional cellaring and offer prime drinking from 2011 to 2019. Pitt and David Chen purchased their 72-acre parcel in 1995 and began planting in 1997. Their first vintage was 1999 and currently all the wines are estate bottled (in screw caps). Production stands at 3000 cases. www.pattonvalley.com

Light, bright red. Pungent aromas of cherry, blackberry, dried flowers and herbs. Light in body, with sweet red and dark berry flavors firmed by gently chewy tannins and given refreshing bite by a note of cherry skin. Nicely focused pinot, with very good finishing lift and cut. This wine gained depth and sweetness with air while maintaining its vivacity.
