The 2005 Pinot Noir “Elizabeth’s Reserve” is better balanced. It has a fragrant nose of smoke, toast, red cherry, and raspberry. It also sports a racy, medium-bodied personality with uplifting acidity, bright red fruits, and well-integrated tannin. Drink it over the next 6 years. Adelsheim Vineyard was founded in 1971 and the winery’s first vintage was in 1978. David Adelsheim remains in charge as the winery has expanded into a new winery and planted more vineyard in the Chehalem Mountain AVA. In addition to Pinot Noir, the winery produces a bevy of quality white wines worthy of consumer attention. Tel: (503) 538-3652; www.adelsheim.com. Dark red. Sexy oak spice-accented raspberry and kirsch aromas are enlivened by zesty minerality. Supple, fleshy red berry flavors are deepened by a hint of tobacco and given firmness by moderate tannins. The focused finish echoes the tobacco note. This is already complex and drinking well.
