Score 91+/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, May 2014

(13.5% alcohol; aged in 50% new French oak, vs. 40% for the Dutton Ranch bottling): Good bright, dark red. Dark cherry, blueberry, black raspberry, tobacco and exotic spices on the nose, lifted by orange zest and flowers. Intensely flavored and vibrant, with terrific mineral energy and a positive herbal element to the savory black fruit and coffee bean flavors. Quite tightly coiled and firmly tannic today in comparison to the 2012s from Russian River Valley. But this tactile, serious pinot has the mid-palate concentration to gain in bottle.
