The Grade's 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Kingly Project emerges from a single block on the property (Block 5). Much more powerful than the straight Cabernet bottling, the Kingly possesses remarkable depth and power, but is also a bit one-dimensional. Still, there is plenty to admire in the wine's jammy dark fruit and overall intensity. Graphite, smoke and pencil shavings add complexity on the ample, enveloping finish. (AG)

Made by brilliant winemaking consultant Thomas Brown, the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Kingly Project (100 cases; aged 20 months in French oak) comes from the Winfield Vineyard, which sits at the alluvial base of Mt. St. Helena. Sweet cassis, graphite, high-class, unsmoked cigar tobacco and background oak characteristics are present in this full-bodied, opulent, multidimensional, majestic Cabernet Sauvignon. It should age effortlessly for two decades.
