Score 17/20 · Drink 2022-2027, Jancis Robinson MW, Jan 2022

Full bottle 1,341 g. Dijon clones 115 and 777 harvested on 9 September at 23.8 Brix and pH 3.26. Destemmed and cold-soaked for five days. Inoculated with RC 212 for primary fermentation. Inoculated with Oenococcus oeni Viniflora CH16 for malolactic conversion. Aged for 10 months in French oak, 30% new. Aged in bottle 18 months. Tasted blind. Perfumed, more earthy and spicy than fruity. Wet leaves and moist soil, spicy tree bark – just a touch greener than cinnamon, tart red pie cherries, candied cranberries, pomegranate. Riper on the palate than the nose, more body than expected from such an ethereal nose. Finishes just a bit short. (SCJ)

Cut from the same cloth as the 2019 with its richer, darker berry fruits, forest floor, earth, and spicy aromas and flavors, the 2018 Pinot Noir Gap's Crown Vineyard is a slightly richer, more concentrated wine with a dense, expansive mid-palate, medium to full body, and a great finish. Both the 2018 and 2019 are impressive wines.
