Score 91/100 · Drink 2006-2012, Robert Parker, Dec 2006

The 2004 Syrah Griffin’s Lair exhibits a dark ruby/purple color as well as plenty of pepper, tar, underbrush, black cherry, and blackberry characteristics. Excellent structure, medium to full body, decent acidity, and a plush, heady finish suggest it should be consumed over the next 5-6 years. Previously recommended: 2002 La Palette (93), 2003 Syrah Napa (90). Tel. and Fax (707) 257-0567

The 2004 Syrah Griffin Vineyard, a site Karen Culler shares with Pax Mahle, possesses an opaque purple color in addition to a big, sweet nose of peppery, earthy, blackberry, cassis, incense, and Chinese black tea aromas. A plum-like note also emerges in the mouth. This rich, full-bodied, impressive Syrah should be enjoyed over the next 5-7 years. Distributed by Polaner Selections, tel. (914) 244-0404
