Bright red. Heady aromas of raspberry, cherry-cola and incense, plus a whiff of smoky oak. Supple and broad, with ripe, sweet red berry flavors and an exotic floral nuance. Blends richness and energy smoothly, finishing on an intense raspberry liqueur note with excellent persistence.

The Broadley 2010 Pinot Noir Claudia's Choice – from the oldest vines of their estate vineyard – is scented with amply-ripe cherry and purple plum; offers mouth-filling sap tinged with invigorating green herbal pungency; and finishes with more than enough sheer juiciness to override its hints of black tea-like astringency and heat. I would plan on drinking this over the next 2-3 years. (A 2002 tasted alongside was forest-floor in aromatic orientation; retained tart-edged berryish mid-palate fruitiness, but finished slightly dry.) Also tasted: 2010 Pinot Noir Reserve ($38.00; 86), 2002 Pinot Noir Claudia's Choice (86) Broadley Vineyards is located in southern Willamette Valley closer to Eugene than Portland. This family-owned winery sources fruit from prime AVAs in northern Willamette Valley as well as from their own estate. The winery utilizes 30% new oak on all of their Pinots. Tel.
