Bright light yellow. Fresh aromas of lemon zest, brown spices and sexy oak, plus a suggestion of honeysuckle. The honeyed element gives the palate a slightly glyceral smoothness that’s more than leavened by minerality and sound lemony acidity. Finishes with good mineral reserve; this reminded me of a Mercurey blanc. This new Woodinville project—the first vintage was 2010—is a joint venture between Brian Carter and Robert Takahashi, who most recently assisted Carter at his eponymous winery.

A significant step up, with a beautiful, classy, yet slightly reticent bouquet of golden apples, toast, creme and white flowers, the 2011 Chardonnay Conner Lee (barrel-fermented in 28% new French oak) is layered and pure on the palate, with solid mid-palate depth, superb freshness and a clean, detailed finish that has plenty of richness and length. Outstanding all around, it should be consumed over the coming 2-3 years. Drink now-2016. www.arraycellars.com
