As to the Pinot Noir from this estate, the 2014 Loner Pinot Noir Las Orillas comes from the John Sebastiano estate in the Sta. Rita Hills. Its deeper ruby color is followed by an Old World bouquet of red currants, smoked meats, sous bois, and gamey forest floor notes. Rich, medium to full-bodied, and layered on the palate, it's a powerful, beautifully balanced Pinot Noir that should keep for 10-12 years.

The 2014 Loner Pinot Noir Las Orillas John Sebastiano Vineyard is another complex, subtle Pinot Noir from Sanguis. Forest floor, framboise, dried herbs and dried cranberry notes give way to a supple, sweetly fruited, seamless Pinot Noir that has sweet tannin and a good finish. It's a charming, nuanced and consumer friendly effort to enjoy over the coming 4-5 years. Based out of Santa Barbara, Sanguis’s Matthias Pippig continues to make a singular lineup of wines that run the gamut from rich, unctuous Syrahs, to old-school Pinot Noirs, to borderline orange wines. There’s some true gems in the lineup, with the 2014 1/1 Syrah being the best wine I’ve tasted from the estate.
