Medium red. Intensely perfumed bouquet of black raspberry, cherry-cola, anise and dried flowers, with a smoky undertone. A spicy, almost peppery midweight that offers sweet dark berry and bitter cherry flavors and slow-building smokiness. The very persistent finish repeats the spice note strongly.

The 2007 Pinot Noir Summers Reserve is a barrel selection aged in 60% new oak. It exhibits an expressive nose of cinnamon, allspice, smoke, black cherry and black raspberry. On the palate it has plenty of succulent fruit, good depth and concentration, and enough structure to evolve for 2-3 years. It will be at its best from 2011 to 2019. Continuity and consistency are the keys at Cristom; same family ownership, same winemaking team with Steve Doerner at the helm. Tel. (503) 375-3068; www.cristomwines.com
