Score 17.5/20 · Drink 2022-2029, Jancis Robinson MW, Jul 2021

See notes on 2019 vintage for a description of this small, close-planted vineyard. Mid crimson. Subtle nose that is only just starting to unfurl. Intense combination of fruit – raspberry and salty tamarind – and tannin but with alcohol very moderate. Very different from so many sweet non-European Pinots, this wine has real structure. If anything, it seems less open than the 2019. Definitely needs food. (JR)

The 2018 Pinot Noir Winery Block has classic scents of fresh cranberries, woodsmoke, earth and black tea leaves. Medium-bodied, it offers intense, firmly framed dark fruits in the mouth with seamless freshness and a long, pepper-laced finish. It could use another year or two in bottle and has the structure to age well in the cellar.

Shimmering ruby-red. Highly perfumed, smoke- and spice-accented red berry preserve and floral pastille scents show excellent clarity and reveal an exotic touch of blood orange as the wine opens up. Appealingly sweet and expansive on the palate, offering concentrated black raspberry, cherry, candied rose and spicecake flavors that show excellent clarity and mineral lift. Weighty yet lively in style, finishing smooth and very long, with polished tannins and resonating florality.
