Score 91/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, May 2011

(14.9% alcohol): Captivating perfume of black cherry, flowers, licorice and clove, with some intriguing soil tones. Lush, layered and sweet, with solid structure to support the cherry, licorice and menthol flavors. A chewy, seamless mouthful of merlot. Finishes with broad, ripe tannins and lovely savory length. Mark Carter noted that this merlot is harvested very late.

Score 88/100 · Drink 2010-2016, Robert Parker, Dec 2010

From a well-known Carneros site, the 2008 Merlot Truchard Vineyard offers notions of berry fruits, figs and coffee as well as medium body and a sexy suppleness. While not the most concentrated wine in this portfolio, it is a pleasant, round, generous red to drink over the next 5-6 years. These are impressive efforts from proprietor Mark Carter.
