Score 91/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, May 2013

Bright full ruby. Brooding aromas of cassis, blueberry, licorice and minerals complicated by bitter chocolate and pepper. Juicy, fine-grained and energetic, with bright acidity intensifying the flavors of currant, mocha and dark chocolate. Shows some cool notes of menthol and herbs but there's also an attractive creaminess of texture here and the tannins are fine. Finishes with noteworthy persistence.

The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon St. Helena is arguably the most refined of these 2009 Cabernets from Etude. Fragrant aromatics, fine, silky tannins and expressive red berries are the hallmarks of this exceptionally polished, layered Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2009 impresses for its sensual, feminine personality and pure grace. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2029. Tel. (707) 257-5300
