Score 92/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, May 2005

Good red-ruby. Dusty, high-toned aromas of minerals, pepper, game and loam. A large-scaled, classic Napa Valley cabernet; creamy, dense and sweet. Finishes very long and aromatic, with firm, fine-grained tannins. Denser than the 2002. There are just 100 cases of this wine, made entirely from 60-year-old vines.

Score 88/100 · Drink 2008-2015, Robert Parker, Feb 2005

The deep ruby/purple-tinged 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford possesses an earthy bouquet with the fruit pushed to the background. More structured, tannic, and austere than its sibling, the Rutherford cuvee is a more Bordeaux-like effort. It may be less of a sure bet for long-term cellaring. If the tannin melts away, and the fruit comes forward, it will merit a score in the upper eighties. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2015. Tel. (707) 257-5300; Fax (707) 257-6022
